discharged before 1 July 1997 and their dependants should be considered for the exercise of discretionary leave to remain. These discretionary arrangements are supplementary to the existing provisions of the Immigration Rules. The rules relating to serving Gurkhas, those discharged after 1 July 1997 and their family members can be found in Appendix Armed Forces.<\/h6>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-29b4bb4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"29b4bb4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5>What is the HM Forces and Gurkha Visa?\u00a0<\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ec1273c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ec1273c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A Gurkha is a citizen or national of Nepal who served in the Brigade of Gurkhas of the British Army under Brigade of Gurkhas\u2019 terms and conditions of service. In May 2009, the Home Secretary announced to Parliament that any former Gurkha with more than 4 years\u2019 continuous service who had been discharged from the Brigade of Gurkhas prior to 1 July 1997 would be eligible for settlement in the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cc2b6cb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cc2b6cb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This scheme recognises the unique nature of the service given by the Brigade of Gurkhas and is offered to them alone on an exceptional basis. It applies to those who served in the Brigade of Gurkhas from January 1948 when it became part of the British Army.
